Introducing The Auckland Songwriters’ Circle

A new live music showcase is launching in Tāmaki Makaurau. It aims to introduce the public to local artists and celebrate the city’s diverse songwriting culture.
Launched with the support of Auckland Council’s Creative Communities Scheme (CCS), this initiative brings together local artists and audiences in a relaxed, intimate, and story-driven setting.
Inspired by the original Nashville songwriters’ circle, which has been successfully adapted in cities around the world, each event features four to six local songwriters. They sit in a circle to perform their own songs in turn and share the stories behind them. The performances are solo and acoustic, allowing the songs and stories to take centre stage. After the performance, there is an opportunity for the audience and songwriters to chat and connect.
The showcase was founded by Amy Shuang Wang, an Auckland-based singer-songwriter who performs under the artist name Raging Flowers. A passionate performer, Amy loves writing and sharing music. She was looking for ways to connect with more listeners and meet other songwriters in her community. After hearing about songwriter circles in cities like New York and Nashville, she was inspired to create something similar in Auckland. She wanted a space where songwriters could gather, perform, and connect with one another. To her delight, her proposal to the Auckland Council’s Creative Communities Scheme was approved, and she was able to start this initiative.
The First Auckland Songwriters’ Circle Showcase
The inaugural Auckland Songwriters’ Circle Showcase is scheduled for Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the Ponsonby Social Club in Auckland.
After sharing the artist registration form on Facebook, the organiser received an overwhelming response from local artists eager to perform.

🎤 Artist Registrations Now Open
The Auckland Songwriters’ Circle is accepting artist registrations for upcoming showcases. With two more events confirmed for early 2026 and plans to expand the series next year, local songwriters are encouraged to register their interest.
To be eligible, artists must:
– Perform original, live acoustic music (no backing tracks)
– Be able to accompany themselves on an instrument (e.g. acoustic-electric guitar or keyboard)
– Be able to perform at least four original songs
– Be able to contribute to the promotion of the event by bringing five guests to the showcase
– All experience levels are welcome! We are looking for passion and diversity!
