L.A. Mitchell Announces Release Date for Bold, Experimental Pop Album Meaningful Work & Vibrant Single ‘Shake’.

Ōtautahi-based Aotearoa artist L.A. Mitchell (Fly My Pretties, Bill Withers Social Club, Terrible Sons) announces the upcoming release of her third full length album Meaningful Work and focus single ‘Shake’, out 26 November 2025.

Meaningful Work is a work of integration for the artist, a statement piece – 12 years in the making. It displays Mitchell’s bold honest songwriting wrapped in lush layers of experimental alt-pop and distinctive raw, powerful vocals. This album marks the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new trajectory for Mitchell.

It is the integration of being young and feeling too much. Not knowing where to put those layers of feeling. I’m 45 now, I’m married, a mother of two. It’s taken me this long to process some of those memories and sensations. This process was about reconnecting to my physical experience of the world and reconciling the history within myself. To return and collect the parts of me that were stuck there.” says Mitchell.

L.A. Mitchell has supported Lionel Richie, & Stevie Wonder. Performed alongside Guy Sebastian, Stan Walker, Dave Dobbyn, Bic Runga, Anna Coddington & Sola Rosa. She was a member of platinum selling rock band Dukes. She is also known for being the chick from Fly My Pretties who sings Apple Heart (Silver Scroll top 20 finalist) or that ‘mind-blowing’ singer on the keys from the Bill Withers Social Club alongside Troy Kingi & Dallas Tamaira and the other half of Terrible Sons (AMA finalists for Best Folk Album 2024).

Focus single ‘Shake’ is feisty & groovy – “The song is about the entanglements of disagreements.” explains Mitchell. “I sucked at confrontation when I was young – there were times I didn’t express it at all or disregarded my integrity. To keep peace, I took the hit. I’m attempting to right past silences & loosen the bind, without naming names.” ‘Shake’ takes us deeper into Lauren’s mystical musical world, following on from recent singles ‘Mother’ (#4 Radio scope Alt Chart #40 Most added) ‘Glove’ (Rolling Stone, Radio Active, R1, The May Magazine) and ‘Slow Dancing’ (RadioScope Alt Chart, 95bFM, Radio Active, RDU, R1)

The album artwork is A.I generated. Both the artwork and title ‘Meaningful Work’ are poking at the complex experience of creating in the current moment.

The artwork image is a little twisted in the way only A.I could manage.” explains Mitchell. “I have generated this image through the I.P of prompts. I decided to use it as a statement because it is twisted, it’s both a little sickening and also hard to look away. I suppose that is how I am observing the world responding to the new technology of A.I, like a slow train wreck. What exactly do we value as a meaningful contribution to the world and to the human condition? My mum was in the tupperware era – we all thought plastic was such a life saver… boy, how we got that wrong.”

The record was written between 2013 – 2023 while raising babies, constructing a garden and releasing Terrible Sons records. Recording started in the summer of 2023 between her home studio in Addington and a borrowed home in Diamond Harbour. Production, engineering and mixing by Mark Perkins, mastering by Brock Mcfarlane at CPS.
