Her first single following her second EP Lost in Comfort, ‘Blushing at the BP’ showcases the more fun side of Len’s artist personality, while maintaining her unmistakable vocal. In this track, Len is on a road trip with a “friend” who she actually has a diabolical crush on – stuck in the car with him and making stops at gas stations along the way. The mood of the song flips between flirty and yearnful while keeping a distinct tongue-and-cheek tone. Distorted guitars and a driving beat produced by Fred Cox (Pip Millet / Odeal / Greentea Peng / Kojey Radical / Paloma Faith) create a sun-baked indie pop feel while Len’s characteristic vocal anchors the story. Pushy backing vocals get stuck in your head and a sparkling lead guitar makes you feel like you’re right there in the car with Len.
As she says: “Blushing at the BP is a song about having a crush. Imagine you’re on a road trip with a friend and about two hours in you start looking at them differently. Suddenly everything they do makes you blush, everything they say makes you laugh – maybe they’re more than just a friend?? Or maybe you’re just losing your mind. There’s still five more hours on the road trip so you obviously can’t say anything, so you’re blushing in the corner of the BP while he’s getting a sausage roll and pumping gas. You and everyone in the world including the lady at the cash register is judging you for your intrusive, unbecoming intentions and you can’t call your sister because you’re stuck in a car sat next to him. Over the next 5 hours your obsession grows and grows…”
‘Blushing at the BP’ lives in the same world as the angsty, relatable pop storytellers like Olivia Rodrigo and Gracie Abrams, with the soulful emotional lyrics of Olivia Dean and Jorja Smith.
