On Friday 13 June, Lexytron releases their new single ‘Disco Jenny’. Singer Lexy and producer Mike, who make up the husband/wife duo Lexytron, moved from England to Aotearoa in 2019 and recorded their forthcoming album ‘Something New’ in their home studios in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Their sound is guitar-based, but the style moves between synthpop, rock n roll and alternative. ‘Disco Jenny’ follows the first single ‘Kiss Me Quick’, which was featured internationally in The Big Takeover and Illustrate Magazine (NY, US), Lost In The Manor and Indie Dock Music Blog (UK), as well as many blogs across Central and South America.
“Why can’t you just tell me how you feel?” snaps Lexytron on ‘Disco Jenny’, luring her partner to the dancefloor to settle their romantic differences in a funk-filled and brassy battle of rage and wit. The song features backing vocals from London-based singer/songwriter EVA and Elen Cowlishaw, bass by Stephen Lake (The Spicy Notes) and trumpet by Welsh player Gwyn Owen (Llareggub).
Lexy says “This might be the best song I’ve written and certainly the funkiest. Mike had a Johnny Marr sounding riff going, and I wrote a Disco tune around. It’s about battling to save a sinking relationship and from the narrator’s perspective, they’re throwing everything including the kitchen sink at their partner to get them to hang in there too. It was recorded in our Auckland home studio, with a cast of London-based musicians contributing to make it a real dancefloor spinner.”
Lexytron’s new single will be released on 13 June via all online streaming platforms.
