Auckland Musician Mizzy Releases Debut EP Wild Ivy

Mizzy’s music crosses shoegaze and indie pop genres: dream-pop with a rock edge.

Her dreamy, introspective lyrics describe identity, coming of age, loss and relationships, and have been described by reviewers as “intricate” and “dipping from vulnerability and melancholy to high points of powerful catharsis.”

Growing up in Wellington and later the Wairarapa, it was clear that Mizzy had an affinity for music from a very young age. Her family remembers her practicing vocal scales as a toddler, and by primary school age she had picked up piano and guitar. Mizzy moved to Auckland in 2021 to pursue her passion for songwriting and music, completing a Bachelor of Music in Pop Music at Auckland University in 2023. In 2024, she committed to pursuing a musical career, performing at local venues such as the Wine Cellar and Whammy Bar, opening for Beth Torrance in October 2024, and playing alongside Emily Bateman and Evie Bamford (ex-Big Sur).

Mizzy says Wild Ivy came from a period of transition in her life. “I wrote it when I was trying to come to terms with a lot of growing pains, and a lot of the dreampop, new age influence from my teenage years really came through.”
