NZ On Air Announce Successful New Music Pan-Asian Funding Recipients for June 2024

New Zealand On Air is thrilled to announce the results of its 2024 New Music Pan-Asian focus round for single-based funding, where NZ On Air will be supporting 20 Pan-Asian artists with the recording, video, and promotion costs for their new song.

New Music Pan-Asian is the first targeted music funding from New Zealand On Air specifically geared towards supporting the Pan-Asian artistic communities and audiences of Aotearoa. New Zealand On Air is excited to support the following artists in their upcoming release, where their songs add to the wider cultural music mix that local audiences will be able to experience.

Within the June 2024 New Music Pan-Asian round, New Zealand On Air received 65 eligible applications and, after the help of its esteemed panel, will be investing up to $11,000 in 20 songs by local artists to be released in the coming months.

From the 20 funded recipients, there are 15 first-time New Zealand On Air funded recipients, three songs featuring Pan-Asian languages, and 80% of the funded recipients identified as female, gender diverse, or mixed-gender groups. It was also great to see three out of the 20 songs selected for funding were created during the collaborative songwriting week, FAN CAMP Vol. 4, held at Big Fan and funded by New Zealand On Air.

New Zealand On Air monitors these funding statistics to ensure its work supports a diverse and inclusive music industry, as well as reflecting the many communities within Aotearoa, with a strong potential to reach those audiences via broadcast, streaming, and online media. The quality of music submissions continues to be of an incredibly high caliber, and New Zealand On Air thanks this month’s judging panel for their hard work and considerable expertise in deciding upon the final results. Many thanks to: Aneeka Moheed [Programme Director — 95bFM], Melissa Wong [Sony Music NZ], Umar Zakaria [Jazz Artist, Songwriting Mentor], and Casey Yeoh [New Zealand On Air].

The next New Music Pan-Asian funding round will open in 2025. You can find out more information on New Music Pan-Asian funding here.

New Zealand On Air’s next New Music Single round will open on Thursday 8 August and the deadline for the round is Thursday 22 August. You can find more information on New Music Single here.
