NZ On Air Announces New Music Project Kids Fund

NZ on Air are excited to announce the launch of the NZ On Air New Music Project Kids fund – the first project funding targeted towards the children’s music community in Aotearoa.

This new targeted fund was created in response to our NZ On Air 2023 Music Funding Review, which highlighted within the music sector feedback a need to “ensure that access is available to the New Music Project fund for children’s artists”.

NZ On Air’s New Music Project Kids funding scheme will support the production and promotion of new children’s music, associated visual content, and marketing and promotion. It is designed for New Zealand children’s music artists who have an established track record of audience, broadcast and online outcomes in Aotearoa, which is a key criteria for project applications.

To ensure children’s music creators are paid fairly for their work, New Music Project Kids will support multi-song children’s projects with funding between $11,000 and $44,000 plus GST, including the 10% Artist Creation Fee which was made mandatory by NZ On Air earlier this year.

Artists will also need to have confirmation of involvement from a third-party New Zealand-based music company or, for a self-managed artist, provide a track record which proves they have released, marketed and promoted a project previously.

The fund opens on Thursday 4 April 2024 and closes on Wednesday 24 April 2024.

For more information on New Music Project Kids, head to our website here. There are essential documents on the Application Guidelines and the Pre-Application Criteria.

If you have any questions about the fund, email us at project@nzonair.govt.nz

Please note, the New Music Project Kids fund is not aimed at new and emerging children’s music artists who don’t yet have a significant pre-existing tamariki audience. For those artists, we have our regular New Music Kids funding, where children’s music creators can apply for up to $11,000 to cover costs relating to one or two songs.
