NZ Vocalist & Producer Lola Releases New Dark Dance Track ‘True’

Aotearoa vocalist and producer, Lola follows up her attention-grabbing debut single, ‘Portal’ with her fresh gritty dance track, ‘True’. This release marks a bold expansion for Lola, her production and artistry delving deeper into the realms of electronica while retaining her signature raw energy and authenticity.

Lola shares: “‘True’ is about embracing the darkness that resides within you, and learning to share your inner fears with those closest to you so that they may do the same in return”. Regarding the track cover visuals, Lola explains: “The Rottweiler represents my fears, and so I stand alongside it.”

Portal,’ her first release of 2024 was embraced by alternative radio throughout the motu. The single peaked at number 4 on the Alternative Radio Scope Charts and was spotlighted on bFM and Dunedin Radio 1’s ‘Top 11 countdown’. The song also received high praise from local music champions Sniffers, Rolling Stone AU, Tahi and Under The Radar, for the track’s unique blend of captivating soundscapes and innovative production.

“Sonically ‘True’ is an expansion on the production role I’ve taken in my own music – with full control I was able to create something that sounds huge. My favourite part is the bridge section which features a live growling Prophet synth and manipulated vocal samples from Kiss Facility (Maya Alkhateri, Sega Bodega) that are paired with my own.”

As a vibrant creative force in the Aotearoa music scene, Lola offers a refreshing vision of the local alternative sound, pushing boundaries and redefining genres. Her next single ‘Under‘, spotlights her innovative production, showcasing her knack for crafting intricate soundscapes. Lolas ethereal vocals always lead the way as she experiments and genre-bends ‘90s trip-hop weaving in the distinctive melodies of the sitar.
