Building on the momentum of ‘Through the Day,’ which went to #1 on the 95bFM Top Ten (remaining on the chart for 4 weeks), #2 on the SRN Top Ten, #4 on RDU’s Te Ahi Top Ten and #20 on the Official Aotearoa Music Charts Hot 20 Aotearoa Singles, Tāmaki Makaurau-based indie artist Evie Bamford returns with ‘Company,’ an energetic indie-pop track centred on the transformative act of learning to enjoy your own company.
Built on crisp, driving drums and a thumping bassline, the song moves with a strong sense of forward momentum, creating a foundation for rich layers of keys, sparkling electric guitar and bright trumpet lines.
At its core, ‘Company’ is vibrant and uplifting, exploring the process of becoming comfortable in your own skin; letting go of external validation, and learning to appreciate the life you’ve built for yourself.
Evie shares;
“I wrote ‘Company’ in one of those rare moments where everything feels like it’s in the right place. The song came from this sense of excitement and clarity I felt waking up each day; knowing who I was, what I wanted, and what really mattered to me. It took me a long time to really enjoy my own company, but now it’s the best!”
The band brings a strong sense of cohesion and musicality to the recording, with James MacEwan (trumpet, vocals), Hugo Butler (bass), Rory Johns (keys, synth), Jeremy Richardson (drums), and Evie on guitars and vocals. The collaborative recording process – undertaken by Ally Doe, who recorded the band live, and Evie, who recorded the overdubs – adds to the track’s warmth and authenticity.
