Rock Band Powder Chutes Release Their Version Of Shapeshifter’s ‘Dutchies’

Powder Chutes follow ‘Merchants’ with a rock homage to a kiwi dance classic. Otago based rock band Powder Chutes release their version of ‘Dutchies’, an inspired choice of cover that finds the band celebrating their signature riff-driven guitar sound and applying it to the Shapeshifter drum and bass monster; the result is a rock anthem that celebrates all that is great about the original, with a fresh sound that will re-introduce the track to a new audience globally.

Powder Chutes version of ‘Dutchies’ has gained support from Shapeshifter, with Sam Trevethick saying: “Wow. I’m blown away! This is so wicked. You guys have put so much work into this, the arrangement, finding ways of playing the textures in the track using your palette. Amazing, I really love it. I’m a big fan of guitar based music and I think this sounds sick. Really well played. Vibing. Tight but raw. Shot boys!”

P.Digsss is equally positive: “Wow lads. Great bloody work. You boys have a bunch of killer tunes to be well and truly proud of, and absolutely love what you have done with Dutchies. Honoured to be honest.”

And Tiki Taane, long-time member of the extended Shapeshifter whanau, and certified Kiwi Royalty said: “Holy F*%k this slays! I opened up the file while making breakfast in the kitchen and the first thing I wanted to do was kick the chairs over, jump onto the table, and dive onto the couch like a nuttah. I can’t wait to see you guys play this live, it’s such a sick and fresh version.”

A visualiser shot in Central Otago by Nat Warburton of Redpoint Productions accompanies the release.
