There’s something a bit dangerous about telling the truth out loud – so SAZ decided to sing it instead.
In Plain Sight, the debut EP from the Auckland-based singer/songwriter, is a four-track peek into the way she processes love, loss, and all the messy feelings we pretend we’ve “totally moved on from.” Spoiler: she hasn’t. And she’s fine with that.
Written from bedrooms, music rooms, and the occasional beach car park, the EP blends pop, folk, punk edges, and the occasional dramatic flare (a musical-theatre kid at heart). Across the project, she moves between sweet and sharp, soft and explosive, giving you the kind of
emotional whiplash only a twenty-something who “swears she’s chill” can deliver. From the warm, indie-pop glow of ‘Friend Like Me’ to the slow-burn ache of ’Til Spring Comes Again’, SAZ stretches into new colours with the theatrical cry of ‘Hear Me Now’ and the darker, teeth-baring tension of ‘The Watcher’. Every track belongs in the same world – but none of them behave the same once they’re in the room.
Recorded over one intense, slightly unhinged week with her band, In Plain Sight captures the homespun, heartfelt chaos of an artist who’s learning to back herself and have a little fun with the fire while she’s at it.
Some stories only make sense when you see them In Plain Sight.
