Seventeen-Year-Old Emma Carter Releases her Debut Album BLUE

Manawatu’s newest artist expresses pain, anxiety, darkness, trauma and hope in this spooky-alt-pop twelve-track album.

BLUE is a haunting, cinematic and emotionally raw album, filled with vulnerability and self-expression that speaks deeply to the listener. Fans have compared Emma Carter‘s sound to that of Billie Eilish, Twenty One Pilots, and Olivia Rodrigo.

“I created this album in the hopes that it can save others like music saved me,” Carter says often in interviews. “The world is a really dark place and there are a lot of scary things out there and within ourselves, but if I can help people understand that they’re not alone and that they’re worthy and loved and known, well – that would be amazing.”

Emma Carter is a singer/songwriter originally from Auckland who has been singing and playing piano most of her life, and has acquired quite a lengthy list of other instrument skills over the years, some of which include guitar, drums, french horn, bass, ukulele, and baritone ukulele. A self-taught vocalist, she produced most of BLUE in her bedroom – lyrics, music, melodies, vocals – and brought it in to Sam Sheppard at The Stomach Creative Sounds Recording Studio in Palmerston North where they recorded the vocals and co-mixed the album in October.

As of 11/11/25 BLUE is now available to listen on all major streaming platforms and available to buy in digital format on BandCamp, as well as cd releases planned for 2026. You can follow her journey on Instagram and TikTok where she posts song covers, her own songs, and other musical content.
