Hamilton’s Son & Water are inviting Aotearoa to let go and move with their new single, ‘Drop It Down’.

Written by Son & Water frontman Daimond Porima Ferguson (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Ruapani, Ngāti Hikairo, Ngāti Hauā), alongside his father, co-founder of iconic reggae band Katchafire, Jamey Ferguson (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Ruapani), ‘Drop It Down’ was born from Daimond’s desire to create a full-band anthem to encourage people to get up and move.

It’s about letting go and being your authentic self. I wanted to create a song where people can forget about what anybody else thinks, feel the wairua in the music and just dance how they want,” says Porima Ferguson.

Blending the drums, guitar and signature reggae skank rhythms, ‘Drop It Down’, produced by Canaan Ene, captures the band’s love for live performance, reflecting the raw, positive and grassroots energy shared between the band and their audience every time they take to the stage.

The release comes amidst the band’s successful ‘Coming For You’ headline tour across Aotearoa, upcoming appearances at festivals both in New Zealand and Australia, and continues the momentum behind Son & Water’s growing live presence.

“Seeing people connect with our music and singing our songs back to us has been a massive blessing. Being able to step out at our own headline shows and feel the support of our fans is incredibly humbling,” Porima Ferguson adds.

‘Drop It Down’ is the lead single on Son & Water’s debut album, ‘Still Burning’, which is out on September 25. Jamey Ferguson says the album marks a significant milestone for the father-son duo, as they continue their mission to create uplifting music that brings people together.

We just want to keep on creating good energy, sharing our music and connecting with people wherever we go,” says Ferguson.

‘Drop It Down’ is made with the support of NZ On Air and is available now on all streaming platforms.
