Ever had a breakup so messy that no matter where you go, you keep being reminded of your ex? Sophie Gibson’s latest retro-pop track ‘Your Name’ is about exactly that — the irony of trying your hardest to move on when it feels like the universe just won’t let you.

“I wanted to move on so badly that it kind of became ironically funny how often I kept being reminded of them,” Sophie laughs.“The first lyric,‘Think I left my sh** at your house,” really sums it up — that feeling of,‘I really don’t want to see you again, but here I am, unfortunately for both of us!’”

Produced by Luan Meaker, the track draws on Stranger Things–style 80s synths and groovy basslines. “Luan just got it,” Sophie says. “He came up with this super cool retro synth sound under the vocals in the chorus that just makes you want to dance.”

‘Your Name’ is a reminder that even the worst breakups can be turned into something fun.“Breakups suck,” Sophie admits, “but there’s nothing better than dancing it out.”
