Tempo 38 Drop First New Music in 20 Years: New Single & Video ‘Deep State’

Hawke’s Bay punk rock veterans Tempo 38 roar back to life with their explosive new single ‘Deep State’, the band’s first studio release in two decades.

Recorded with Nick Blow at SLP (Devils Elbow, Jakob) and mastered by Chris Chetland at KOG, ‘Deep State’ marks the beginning of a new chapter for the long-established punk act.

The track is one of three new recordings from their 2025 sessions, with the remaining tracks slated for release early 2026. The official music video — filmed and edited by Matt Livingstone for Judgment Day Productions (JDP) — drops Friday, November 28 at 6pm on
YouTube, released in collaboration with Hit Your Head Music. Catch the video premiere here.

‘Deep State’ will be available on all major streaming platforms and digital stores.

Formed in 1999, Tempo 38 carved out a reputation across New Zealand and Australia through relentless shows and releases, including four EPs and a split album with Australian hardcore outfit Provoke (PEE Records / Hit Your Head Music).

After a long hiatus, the band reunited in 2024 to a sold-out comeback show at Paisley Stage, Napier. Since then they’ve delivered standout performances at the Deathless Beer Launch Party and Destroy Napier festival.

Tempo 38 celebrate the new single with a release show on December 27, 2025 at The Boneshed (Hastings), ahead of their appearance at Outfield Festival on January 31, 2026.
