Tāmaki Makaurau alt-soul artist Tiger Lotiss is back with another sultry cinematic number ‘Python’.

Auckland Artist Tiger Lotiss gave us ‘Chameleon‘ back in February, and ‘Tiger in the Garden‘ in August, now get ready to smoulder with his new track ‘Python.’

Sultry and slow-burning ‘Python’ is a soulful, hip-hop infused track about navigating his late-teen years in a world of promiscuity and empty desire. In collaboration with Hip Hop Artist AKIYA – Python is escapism, nostalgia, and melancholy, deliciously signed, sealed and delivered.

Produced by Tiger Lotiss and engineered by Sebastian Judd (Chequered Patterns), Python represents the next chapter from his young adult love life. In a world where technology gives us access to meeting anyone and everyone, trust and commitment was and still is hard to find.

Now at the age of 29, Tiger steps into his 19 year old self to give us a glimpse into what being 19, gay and in a relationship was like for him. The inspiration for the song arrived whilst crying outside of a Tank Salad Bar.

“It had only been a week or two after we broke up and I had moved out. He had cheated, psychologically chipped away at my self-esteem, and admitted to me he only used me so that moving to Auckland would be financially easier on him. He had asked me to come see him for post-break up chats after the Pride Parade and like a fool I agreed. This idiot double-booked! I turned up to the apartment and he had a dinner date with some other boy. I could have flipped a table, but I decided to walk in, look for napkins for his date, and then leave. I didn’t want to give him a reaction but I also wanted them both to sit with the discomfort that he just made me endure. I cried all the way down Elliot Street and bawled my eyes outside of Tank, the one next to Dominoes – in the middle of the night – during Pre-Covid CBD. Haven’t been to a Pride Parade since” recounts Tiger.

‘Python’ veneers melancholy in a golden-like glow, pairing seductive lyricism with nostalgic but contemporary musicianship. With a full-length album expected later this year, ‘Python’ marks the third release from an artist unafraid to admit he and discomfort are more than acquainted.
