Vanessa Tottle Shares Women About Sound Songwriting Project ‘Aroha Mutunga’

Singer-songwriter and music producer Vanessa Tottle bears the fruit of her Women About Sound Song Writing Course with ‘Aroha Mutunga‘.

Aroha Mutunga‘ was the brain child of Vanessa and Amelia Kae-Ryder during their attendance in a Women About Sound Song Writing Course in the latter half of 2023. The aim was to collaborate with another artist and create something beautiful and that they did. With the limited time they had to compose the song, which came about from a series of photos taken at the Church Tree Gardens in Ohaupo, the haunting vocals and downtempo beats, set you on a journey. What makes this song so special is that some of the lyrics are sung in te reo Māori and although there isn’t a lot of it in there, it certainly packs a punch!

Spiritual and cultural guidance was sought by close friend Tai – he felt honoured to be part of this process, helping to bring two cultures together in this way.

Is there more on the horizon for these two singer-songwriters? It’s only the beginning and they are hoping to bring us more collaborations over the next year!

Aroha Mutunga‘ – Endless Love is a love story, a sense of wanting, of belonging.
