Vanessa Tottle’s ‘Invisible Rose’ Turns a Wellington Cocktail Into a Living Instrument

There is a gritty, beautiful serendipity to Vanessa Tottle’s upcoming electronic single, ‘Invisible Rose’, dropping August 21. Written alone at Wellington’s Naumi Hotel bar in 2024 while realising just how far her husband was – eight hours away! The track features an immersive texture built directly from a field recording Vanessa took on her phone—including the rhythmic sound of the bartender shaking the very cocktail that gave the song its name.

Musically, it bridges the gap between deep-cut underground electronic music and the raw vulnerability of late-night drives with a hint of late nineties pop – To celebrate the release, Vanessa is bringing the track full circle, performing live at Wellington’s iconic Moon Bar on Thursday, August 20 (alongside local trip-hop/alt-rock band Tragedies), and before the show heading back to the Naumi Bar to toast the release. Tickets are available now via UnderTheRadar.
