Applications are open now and with 24 internships still available - ranging from studio engineering and live sound, artist management and PR and promotion, through to music events management and festivals - this is an opportunity to work alongside and be mentored by some incredible people in the industry.

2023 Industry Internship Programme | Available Internships

 

 

1. Events and Artist Management Assistant - Christchurch 

  • ** December 2022 start for 16 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours), Wednesday plus one other day

Working with an international company, you'll be assisting with New Zealand based event and artist management, show production, and other admin and logistical tasks including post-performance invoicing and reporting. Attention to detail, good communications skills, the ability to assess and adapt, and a good sense of humour are a must. You'll need to be familiar with Google Suite and some understanding of events and the local music industry would be beneficial. There'll be some national travel involved with this role.

* Flexibility with work hours will be needed, including weekends and holidays.

 

2. Music Manager Assistant - Wellington          

  • February 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours) - Tuesday & Wednesday preferred, but flexible

You'll be supporting the music manager with day-to-day tasks and a range of projects, including marketing strategies, social media promotion, tour planning and merchandise development, so the ability to multi-task and work to deadlines is essential. Motivated and hard-working, you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and have a good knowledge of social media (including TikTok). Basic knowledge of Canva and Wix would also be helpful. 

* You'll need your own laptop for this role.

 

3. Recording Studio & Music Venue Assistant - Palmerston North       

  • January 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours) between Tuesday - Saturday, with some evening/weekend work required for shows

This varied role includes assistant engineering in the recording studio, helping with live music event delivery, facilitation of rehearsal spaces and equipment, and support with various administrative tasks. With a passion for original and local music, you'll need to have an intermediate level of recording engineering and/or live audio and lighting production skills, and be familiar with ProTools for this position. You'll have strong communication skills, be able to work under pressure, and the ability to deal respectfully with a wide cross-section of the public, including people with diverse backgrounds, cultures, social groups, gender, abilities, and needs is essential. Experience in DIY or alternative music is also welcomed. 

* A driver's licence would be helpful for this position, but not required.

 

4. Recording Studio Intern - Auckland            

  • February 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Three days per week (24 hours), flexible

Working alongside the Studio Managers and Audio Engineers, you will be assisting in all aspects of recording and mixing, music production, studio management and operations. This role will be assisting with recording sessions, ProTools session preparation and audio post production, so you will already be familiar with ProTools, Logic Pro X, Autotune, basic microphone technique, and analogue mixing desk operation. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills,  be proactive, and have a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

 

5. Catalogue Specialist - Auckland  

  • February 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Three days per week (24 hours) - Monday, Tuesday & Friday preferred, but flexible

You'll be responsible for creating, editing, posting, updating, and generally overseeing new release and back catalogue material. This role requires organisation, an attention to detail, creativity and solid communication and time management skills to produce/publish accurate high-quality content within the required time frame. You'll also be familiar with digital streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple, YouTube) and have strong Excel and Word skills. Knowledge of Photoshop and other Adobe Creative Suite programmes would also be a bonus.

 

6. Assistant to the Artist Liaison/Tour Manager - Wellington

  • January 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours), flexible

Assisting with tour management across a variety of show sizes, as well as music video production and creative administration, you'll need to be well-organised, self-motivated, a strong communicator and an excellent multi-tasker! You'll be comfortable working in an ever-changing environment and have a keen interest in learning. You'll need to be comfortable using Google Suite and MS Suite, while any website development, graphic design, video editing and/or photography skills would be helpful. An understanding of music industry bodies and a knowledge of live music, studio, and/or live streaming set ups would also be a bonus. 

* You'll need your own computer and your own vehicle/ability to get to work locations for this role.

 

7. Kāpehu - Assistant Creative Navigator - Te Tairāwhiti

  • January 2023 start for 12 weeks
  • Four days per week (32 hours)

You'll be supporting the Lead Kāpehu (Music Managers) with artist empowerment and development,  making sure every step is mana enhancing and aligns with the creative vision of the artist. This role will be working across the business - from bookings to manaaki manuhiri, touring management, social media management and assisting in promotions, production-related tasks and administrative tasks - so you'll need to have excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, and be able to hustle with humility.  Kāpehu must also be manaaki, adaptable and reliable, driven and have a huge heart for mahi tahi and collaboration. 

* A driver’s licence is required for this position.

 

8. Marketing, Communications and Events Intern - Auckland

  • February 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Three days per week (24 hours) - Monday, Wednesday & Friday preferred

Helping with all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into running successful events, this role is well suited to a marketing or communications graduate with a love for music and events. As you'll be designing and managing social media and marketing campaigns, you'll be well organised with a high level of written communication and promotional writing skills. Social media (including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok) and Google Suite (Google Drive, Docs and Sheets) skills are a must, while any video editing and/or Photoshop skills would be an added bonus. 

* You'll need a driver's licence for this position.

 

9. Music Supervisor & Coordinator's Assistant - Auckland     

  • January 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Three days per week (24 hours), flexible 

You'll be assisting a music supervisor and two music coordinators working on the music aspect of film and TV projects, as well as project development within both the US and NZ. Well-organised, reliable and trustworthy, you'll love music, have excellent time management and communication skills and be comfortable using Google Suite, including Google Sheets and Google Docs. While not essential, understanding of metadata and some experience of using DISCO is preferred.

10. Admin & Events Assistant - Auckland

  • February 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours), flexible

Assisting the Manager - Operations, you'll be responsible for planning and delivering fantastic digital communications, from improving the website experience for members to writing regular EDMs and managing social media. You'll also be working on delivering seminars and events, including the annual Music Month Summit. You’ll have excellent communication skills, be tech savvy and be comfortable using social media and software such as Mailchimp, SquareSpace and Canva. You'll also need to be a self-starter, highly organised and pro-active, and happy working on spreadsheets. 

* A driver’s licence is needed for this role.

 

11. Film/TV Composer Assistant - Auckland

  • Flexible start date for 16 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours)

You'll be providing support across a range of duties - from setting up Logic sessions ready for scoring and recording for music production projects, music editing tasks, to assisting with music 'spotting'; determining where and what music should go in films. With a strong interest in film scoring and music production, you'll be very comfortable using Logic. Some experience with ProTools and knowledge of music theory would be helpful, but not essential. You should be self-motivated, a good problem solver, and have good admin skills (particularly with spreadsheets).

 

12. Concert Assistant - Auckland

  • February 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours) - Monday & Wednesday, with some evening work required for shows

This role will see you involved in all aspects of concert planning and promotion, including publicity and marketing, database management, tour logistics, production management, artist liaison, and assisting at Auckland concerts. You will have done or be doing tertiary study in events or publicity and be enthusiastic about concerts and bands. You'll be comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel, be good with social media and be well organised and punctual.

 

13. Junior Content Creator - Kūmeu

  • January 2023 start for 20 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours) - flexible between Tuesday - Friday

Working alongside the creative team, you'll be assisting with the day-to-day content creation for a range of YouTube channels, pre- and post-release clips for artists, creating PR packs, and creating and scheduling assets for websites and social media platforms. You'll be a creative thinker with a passion for music and design, great attention to detail and excellent time management. The ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with a team is also important. You should have some knowledge of social media platforms, Google Workspace and Adobe Creative Suite (with a focus on After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop).

* A driver's licence is needed for this role.

 

14. Member Services Support - Auckland

  • February 2023 start for 16 weeks 
  • Two days per week (16 hours) - flexible between Tuesday - Thursday

Assisting the member services team with ongoing membership support and engagement, you'll also have the opportunity to work across the organisation, to support and gain an understanding of licensing, membership, and distribution, as well as the promotion and celebration aspects of the organisation's work programme. As well as a passion for NZ music and the music industry, you'll be a friendly and effective communicator with great administration skills (including experience of using Microsoft Office 365) and attention to detail. A knowledge of both music copyright and of the music eco system would be helpful, but not essential. 

 

15. Live Music Tech & Event Coordinator - Auckland

  • March 2023 start for 16 weeks 
  • Three days per week (24 hours), flexible

This varied role will see you working alongside a small but dedicated team to bring a series of nationwide events to life during May to July. As well as ensuring the live music portion of the event runs smoothly and efficiently, you'll be communicating with clients in the lead-up, working with young musicians on event day and coordinating aspects of the live events - it's all go! You'll need to have great interpersonal and communication skills as well as a basic understanding of music production software, and ideally have a qualification in audio production or experience of working on events/working with live sound. Good working knowledge of Google Suite is also essential. There will be some travel involved with this role.

 

16. Events Coordinator Assistant - Christchurch

  • February 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours), flexible

You'll be assisting the Events Coordinator and Director with the communications and organisation for all events happening at the studio, including in-house and public stage performances, in-house workshops, holiday programmes and music releases for artists. Confident, personable and with a "get it done" personality, you'll have strong communication skills and excellent attention to detail. Knowledge of Canva and sound equipment set up would be helpful. 

* This role requires a driver's licence.

 

17. Digital and Administration Assistant - Wellington

  • February 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Three days per week (24 hours) - Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday or Friday

You'll be working with the Chief Executive, Marketing Manager and Music Services Adviser to support the organisation's work - including assisting with communication and promotional initiatives, obtaining music rights, data management, and providing administrative support to the Chief Executive. With excellent people and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a small team, you'll have high work standards and a commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. You'll also have a high level of computer literacy and be comfortable using Google Suite. Knowledge of WordPress would be an added bonus.

 

18. Festival Intern - Auckland  

  • January 2023 start for 20 weeks
  • Three days per week (24 hours), flexible

As part of the festival team, you'll have the opportunity to be involved with communications, website and database management, social media community and artist engagement, as well as logistics and accreditation. You'll be a savvy, fast learner with loads of initiative, and be prepared to apply a variety of skills to help deliver a unique multi-day music and arts festival. Passionate about music, you'll have strong communication and writing skills and comfortably know your way around Google Drive, a Word document and spreadsheets. Some knowledge of te reo is always welcomed. Familiarity with website and mail data management programmes, such as SquareSpace and Mailchimp, as well as Adobe Creative Suits is also a bonus.

 

19. Studio Assistant - Wellington

  • February 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours) between Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but flexible

This role will see you assisting with the setting up and packing down of recording sessions, as well as sitting in on sessions and learning to set up microphones, how to mic a drum kit professionally, how to record other band instruments, studio etiquette and how productions are created. You'll be passionate about music, presentable, trustworthy and keen to learn . Knowledge of ProTools is beneficial but not essential. 

 

20. Production and Programming Assistant - New Plymouth 

  • Flexible start date for 16 weeks
  • 16 hours per week, flexible days/hours

Working with the breakfast show team, you'll be assisting with all things radio station-related, including the production of ad spots and trailers, scheduling, content management, music selection and tagging library tracks. The opportunity to join our hosts on air, or host your own show will be available. Ideally you'll already have some experience with radio and/or music production and be familiar with Reaper, but training can be provided. Passionate about the Kiwi alternative music scene, you'll have excellent people and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, a positive attitude and be computer savvy. You'll also need excellent written and spoken communication skills as you'll be dealing with numerous artists, music managers, station sponsors, advertisers and listeners. Up-to-date social media skills would be helpful.

 

21. Music Intern - Wellington or Auckland

  • January 2023 start for 16 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours) - Monday preferred with other day flexible

This role will see you assisting with the day-to-day delivery of the organisation's music strategy and contributing to relevant activities and projects, including music fund management and an annual music showcase. Someone who relates well to people at all levels and upholds ethics and values, you'll need strong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent reo Māori pronunciation, as well as intermediate to expert skills and experience in Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint. You'll be solutions-for-good-outcomes focused and ideally have previous experience in the NZ music and/or media eco-system. Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition and Illustrator is also ideal.

 

22. Venue Intern - Auckland

  • February 2023 start for 20 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours) - some evening work required for shows

Supporting the Venue Manager and Marketing Manager, you'll be assisting with the running of events including pre-event tasks, and assisting with marketing and promoting shows. You'll have a good understanding of the New Zealand music scene and be motivated to discover new music from here and overseas. You'll need to have good knowledge of NZ music, a basic knowledge of stage plots and production riders, and be good with Word, Outlook, Excel, Facebook and Meta Business Suite. You'll be a team player who loves working in a busy environment that changes every day, and someone who loves music and being around musicians, and is passionate about delivering excellent shows. 

* A driver's licence isn't required but would be beneficial.

 

23. Agency Assistant - Auckland

  • January 2023 start for 20 weeks 
  • Two days per week (16 hours) - Tuesday, Thursday or Friday

Supporting a busy Music Management & Booking Agency, this role is ideal for someone who wants to learn about the overall process of booking and promoting artists and gigs. You'll be assisting with artist contracts for shows, updating artist press packs and riders, assisting with advancing on bookings and keeping the website up-to-date - so you'll need strong administrative skills and attention to detail. Familiarity with Word and Excel is a must, and any knowledge of Photoshop or similar programmes is a bonus. You'll be friendly, have great communication skills, enjoy admin and have an interest in music.

 

24. Editorial Assistant - Auckland

  • Flexible start date for 16 weeks
  • Two days per week (16 hours) - Thursday & Friday

This role is for a serious music fan who is up with current music goings-on and keen to learn more about Aotearoa's music industry. Assisting with music news reporting, feature writing and co-ordinating, and photo editing, you'll have a good knowledge and appreciation of various alternative music genres and movements, and have an interest in supporting Aotearoa's local music scenes. You'll be self-motivated with great organisational skills and attention to detail, strong Google Suite and Photoshop skills, and be comfortable working on all social media channels. We also welcome any examples of writing or reviewing as well as hearing about your background, the music you love and any involvement you've had with local music communities.
